Paris Basis “The Young Men’s Christian Associations seek to unite those young men who, regarding Jesus Christ as their God and Soviour according to the Holy Scriptures, desire to be His disciples in their faith and in their life and to associate their faith and in their life and to associate their efforts for the extension of His Kingdom amongst young men.” Our Mission in India The Indian YMCA is commited to strive for a just society where oppression ,exploitation and denial of life is confronted and transformed. It believes in the sanctity of all life and preservation of all God`s creations. It stands for renewal and reconciliation in broken communities. A world wide movement had its origin in London on June 6.1844 through the inspiration and initiative of a young man of 22, George Williams. Today it comprises 125 National Movements, over 15000 local associations with a membership of 40 million. In India there are 537 YMCA centres. The first YMCA in India as well as in Asia was started in Calcutta in 1857. Apart from urban activities it has many projects in the State of West Bengal including a Girls Home, Swimming Section, YMCA Maidan Ground, Integrated Rural Development Project (Ranaghat), Community Health Centre, Women Cooperative, Women`s Empowerment Programmes and the Terry Waite Vocational Training Centre for youth activities. |
